In Tune with the RA:
Music inspired by John Constable's painting performed at the RA's 250th Anniversary Concerts

"Cottage and Rainbow" - For flute, cello and live electronics

Commissioned by the Royal Academy of Arts, Yin composed a chamber piece inspired by the John Constable's painting Cottage and Rainbow (1808, The RA collection).

Along with the other 11 works by composers from the RCM, Yin's piece was performed twice at the In Tune with the RA concerts as part of the RA's 250th Anniversary Celebrations.

More details on the official site: Concert 1; Concert 2.

The instrumentation is for cello, alto flute and electronics, blending and layering colours in a way as in the soothing landscape sketch. A sense of shadow is created by letting the acoustic sounds and granular electronic sounds overlap, imitate and chase each other.

Cello: Ekaterina Solomennik

Alto flute: Sarah Parkes Bowen

Live electronics: Yin Lu
